The Case For Playing Four Card Keno

My venture into gambling didn’t start with playing Four Card Keno. Most gambling books that I read plainly said that Video Poker and Blackjack were really the only games that gamblers could expect to win at consistently - over the long haul. And, often in the same book or article, I would read that Keno had the worst odds in the casino. So my wife and I became a semi-professional video poker player team. We played for several years were happy to travel from Phoenix to Las Vegas or Laughlin on weekends.

As traveling became more difficult, my wife and I found ourselves frequently visiting local Indian casinos and playing ‘short’ video poker machines. ‘Short’ being games with pay tables that had less than a positive expected return.  That’s frowned upon in the video poker world. One day I compared the pay tables of the short video poker games to those of the Four Card Keno game and determined that
there wasn’t much of a difference.

What clinched it for me was discovering that catching a 7 spot in Four Card Keno had about the same odds as getting a Royal Flush in video poker. And the kicker was that a 7 spot paid $7,000 for my dollar be while the Royal only paid a thousand (for 1 $1.25 bet).  So I was able to rationalize playing ‘the worst game in the house’. But to be clear, I only played Four Card Video Keno – not single card.

Seeking Four Card Keno Success
It wasn’t long before I began to think of ways to play Four Card Keno more effectively. After all, I was a trained video poker player so I just knew that there had to be a better and a worse way to play. Everything is like that – even slot machines. But for the the longest time I found myself  trying one thing and then another. Maybe this pattern, maybe that row – maybe these numbers – maybe the ones that I just played. And once in a while I would hit something. And all the time I kept thinking there was a better way – even though everything that I read said that Four Card Keno was just a game of luck.

Then, one day I hit a seven spot on two cards. What a nice jackpot that was. I wrote down the numbers and spent the next few days thinking about how it happened. Was it just dumb luck like the experts said? Obviously hitting on two cards was due to some overlapping of numbers. But I had overlapped before.

Was there something different with these numbers? Then I remembered that I had also won something on the other two cards at the same time that I caught the two seven spots. That simple observation lead me to a system of playing Four Card Keno that changed everything for me. I started winning more, playing longer and winning on multiple cards regularly.
