Fewer Ambulances Dispatched to Non Smoking Casinos in Colorado

Is it me or are gamblers more likely (than the general population) to be smokers? And is it me or are you more likely to see emergency vehicles and ambulances while at a casino? A new study has tied those two observations together and has come up with some interesting conclusions.

Extension of smoke-free laws to casinos led to decreases in ambulance calls to the gambling venues that were similar to what had been seen for other sites, researchers reported.
Implementation of a smoke-free law on July 1, 2006 led to a fall of 22.8% in calls for ambulances in one county in Colorado from locations other than casinos but no change in the number of calls from casinos, according to Stanton A. Glantz, PhD, of the University of California San Francisco, and Erin Gibbs, BS, of the Gilpin Ambulance Authority in Black Hawk, Colo.
